Initial Consultation

Once your registration is complete, you will be shown to an examining room where you will meet with our radiation oncologists. The doctor will discuss your initial diagnosis, your family health and history, any medications you may be taking and symptoms you may be experiencing. He will then explain the treatment process to you and answer your questions. You are welcome to bring a family member with you to this visit.

Examination

After reviewing your medical history, laboratory tests, recent x-rays, CT and bone scans, the doctor will conduct a physical examination paying special attention to the area of involvement for which you were referred.

Treatment Discussion

Immediately following your examination, the doctor will discuss your condition, treatment options and whether radiation therapy is appropriate for you. He will also describe how radiation therapy works, discuss possible side effects and answer any questions you may have.

If it is determined that radiation treatment is required, a simulation appointment will be scheduled for the doctor to plan your treatment. At this time, additional medical tests such as x-ray exams, CT and/or bone scans or laboratory work may be ordered to aid the radiation oncologists in treatment planning.
